We welcomed Spencer Austin-Martin back to the show for the launch of our Indiegogo crowd funding project to modernize The Space Show website and to create a fully searchable and archival quality database for our more than 2,500 Space Show programs. Our Indiegogo campaign launched just before airtime and this was our coming out program for both the campaign and the detailed plans for the new website and archives. Here are the important websites for our campaign: 1. Our support site: www.supportthespaceshow.com; 2. Indiegogo project site: www.indiegogo.com/projects/oglf-and-the-space-show-modernization-campaign; 3. Our YouTube video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3DQmpIqi_M&feature=em-upload_owner and our Space Show Facebook page: www.facebook.com/oglfthespaceshow. During the first segment of our 97 minute program, Spencer and I introduced The Space Show website modernization program including the development of a fully searchable and archival quality database. See the links above for our actual crowd funding site on Indiegogo, our Support The Space Show support site, our YouTube video, and our Space Show Facebook fan page. I started off talking about the 501C3 status for our project and what this might mean for you the donor as The Space Show is a nonprofit corporation through One Giant Leap Foundation, Inc. In the early part of our discussion, we talked about having listeners beta test the new website as its developed, plus the Honor Roll for Space Show donors which will be a part of the new website. I also talked about the new Space Show logo designed by my son Jordan. Together with a special autograph, the autograph new logo is the Special Edition Logo that for this campaign only will be on the Perk Space Show gear including the external hard drives. Next, we discussed each of our 17 Perks (incentives), going through each one and explaining the terms or certain issues regarding a specific Perk such as hosting your own Space Show program or webinar. We also talked about domestic and international shipping rates. I went into detail on the host your own Space Show Program perk to let everyone know how such a program would work. I also mentioned that were we to discover really good Space Show hosts, we would develop a substitute host program for future Space Show programs when a substitute host was needed. Spencer and I talked about the logistics for both the Space Show Program Collection Perks using external hard drives to give those wanting their own special collection of Space Show programs and webinars, plus a five year annual subscription to all Space Show programs and webinars.

In the second segment, Spencer talked about the importance of social media in our campaign, our Facebook site, and the need for listeners to share our campaign posts and information with their own social media groups. To repeat, our Facebook Space Show fan page is www.facebook.com/oglfthespaceshow. My individual Facebook site is www.facebook.com/david.livingston.75873. Spencer talked about the technical benefits using Drupal 7 as our CMS program plus Blender for our videos. Near the end of our program, a listener asked about the new site’s color theme and if it would be similar to our existing site. Spencer again stressed the need to share our information with listener social media contacts. In addition, I spoke in detail about the testimonials provided by guests and listeners, I responded to a question from Todd about tax deductions for the non profit gifts, and Spencer went into more details regarding both the new search and community tools that will be made available to users on the new website. Please visit our Support and Indiegogo sites and help with our campaign. We need your support to reach our goal and to develop and bring the new site online, including the new quality archives.

Post your comments/questions on TSS blog above. Spencer can be reached through me or our Indiegogo site.

B John: The Space Show policy is we do not do infomercial programs or pay guests. Doing so compromises the quality of programming. Over the years regarding some self-invited guests who were really pushing to be on the show for their “earth-shattering theory or something,” I said I would put them on for a $500 donation to TSS which is a nonprofit. They quit asking for a spot on the show when I put a price tag on their coming on board. I did it just to show them up as I felt they would not contribute to the program since most are what known as takers and very few are givers.

That said, on our Indiegogo project to build and develop the new website and a fully searchable and archival quality archives of all shows and guests, we do have a few Perks where people can host their own show or webinar or select their own topic and guest(s), plus they can be on the show. We are also making available a limited number of sponsorships so check the support site and the Indiegogo site later today for those details. This is a really special set of Perks and only possible because of our crowd funding program. Once the project ends, these types of opportunities will not be available.

Thanks for your note. Share our project with your mailing list, network, and social media contacts. The same for other listeners as well. Such sharing of our campaign will definitely be a big help.

Great to hear that you are updating your archive. It is a gold mine for everyone who’s interested in space flight of our time. I do think it works pretty well today, but there is an IT development to keep up with.

If financing is a problem, then maybe you could charge some of your guests who profit from being your guests? That Lunar Mission One guy, for example who claims on his homepage, that he has earned a million dollar already. He could at least “promise” you that his imagined Lunar lander drills down also a memory stick with all of your shows, 20-100 meters into to Lunar South Pole for free. Then it would be “archived” for ever, he says. Maybe the aliens will find it, or something else or nothing will happen with it? I think he’d pay you $1,000 cash to say his piece again on your show. I’m not the show host, I don’t need to be “polite” to every guest.
