During our 2 hour 12 minute program, we received several calls and answered multiple emails from you the listeners. In the first segment, I spent about 30 minutes updating the audience on my planned medical leave starting later this week, plus I did a detailed summary of our recent Indiegogo campaign to modernize TSS website and archives. I also provided listeners with an update on our website design process with our current time table for launching the new site. In addition, I tossed out some discussion topics including the NASA flowing water on Mars announcement, and the contest to build a 3D printed habitat on Mars. The architects who have designed the new spaceship like Apple HQ has entered the competition to robotically build the printed hab. You can read about this at www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3249387/Firm-Apple-s-Spaceship-HQ-reveals-plans-Nasa-backed-3D-printed-Mars-habitat-built-robots.html.  D.R. Arthur was our first caller to tell us about his Apollo Dividend Project. This project has been designed to cure the world’s economic problems through space development and resource usage. Check it out at www.linkedin.com/pulse/20140612190511-26391015-apollo-dividend-curing-the-world-economic-structure and also at https://twitter.com/apollodividend. D.R. spent about 20 minutes talking with us about this project. A listener emailed me asking me to compare Indiegogo to Kickstarter as she was considering her own crowed funding project. I responded to her as best I could but my Indiegogo experience, as good as it was, was based on only one 501C3 campaign. I’ve just attempted the one campaign plus I have never done a Kickstarter project though many Space Show guests and listeners have used Kickstarter for more than one project. Next was the first of a few UFO discussions based on the comments made in the second half of yesterday’s program with Dr. Stuart Robbins when we discussed his PseudoAstronomy blog. John from Ft. worth was our caller so if this subject interests you, don’t miss it. Before talking about the UFO subject, John wanted me to describe my tour of Dr. Jim Woodward’s physics lab at Cal State Fullerton. We talked about the lab and the Mach Thruster work in detail.

In the second segment, we started out with Dr. Doug’s call regarding the Dailymail article above on the 3D printing of a Mars habitat. Doug was not positive about doing this on Mars, I agreed with him, and this turned out to be a good short discussion on the possibility of doing a robotic 3D printed Martian habitat. Don’t miss what Doug had to say on this subject. Penny emailed us from Boston inquiring about mach thrusters, asking what they were. I made a pass at explaining this work to her, then Ft. Worth John called again to further elaborate on the physics behind Dr. Woodward’s work. Prior to ending his call, John had lots more to say about the UFO topic as he listened to the program with Dr. Robbins but did not call in. We had a fun discussion on the topic for the last 15-20 minutes of our program.

Welcome to our final Open Lines show for March 2015.  During the first segment of the two hour show, I suggested topics addressing the modification of the NASA ARM with the boulder, the NASA proposed cancellation of the LRO and Opportunity missions. I read an email from BJohn about the ISS and our inability to get humans to Mars.  Michael Listner was the first caller. He addressed many topics including Russian-NASA ISS negotiations, Mars one, and I asked him about the topic for the Monday show regarding Tony Milligan and his new book, “Nobody Owns The Moon.  Doug was the next caller to talk about the NASA modified ARM and planetary defense, Mars One, space tourism, and then he promoted his special COTS 2 segment at the upcoming Space Access Conference at the end of this month in Phoenix.

In the second segment, Kris was our first caller and he addressed the ethical and legal issues mentioned around the Tony Milligan Monday show and his book and said China and Russia would ignore such issues which would only serve to restrain America and the west.  I asked Kris some follow up questions from our nuclear discussion last Friday and when I mentioned the Outer Space Treaty, he dismissed it as not being that effective with China and Russia should they choose to violate provisions in it.  Dwayne called to provide the details around the NASA ARM mission regarding the boulder & the baggie options. This is a good and comprehensive discussion so don’t miss it. Dwayne also mentioned Mars One and its PR machine, then he clarified some comments I made on the last Hotel Mars show regarding the Air Force Super Strypi rail small satellite launcher.  We talked in general about the small satellite launch industry as well.  Ft. Worth John was our final caller. He clarified some of his previous remarks regarding the Falcon 9 and the use of side boosters.  We also talked some about the proposed NASA budget leading to the cancellation  of LRO and Opportunity.

Please post your comments/questions on TSS blog above.  You can reach any of the callers or participants through me.

Guests:  Dr. David Livingston with callers; Topics:  Cislunar, lunar return, Mars, dogs in space, lunar nitrogen.  Please direct all comments and questions regarding Space Show programs/guest(s) to the Space Show blog, https://thespaceshow.wordpress.com.  Comments and questions should be relevant to the specific Space Show program. Welcome to our second Space Show guest audition program.  During the first segment of our 1 hour 28 minute program, we fielded no calls from potential new Space Show guests but Doug called in from S. California for a lengthy discussion regarding the reasons for returning to the Moon and what may in his opinion be the best reason for the public to get excited about returning to the Moon with a settlement appeal.  Doug was talking about couples & their possible flight schedules to the Moon,  we talked about Mars One and that researchers have proposed all women crews as many believe they will do much better than men in long duration spaceflight.  Doug then asked about how many people could identify the Moon walking astronauts as to how many could identify the cast of the old TV show, Gilligan’s Island.  Everyone thought that more people would know the Gilligan’s cast than the Apollo astronauts.  John Hunt then emailed in a comment that Gilligan’s Island had a theme song, suggesting the song made the difference. In honor of John’s “discovery,” I  played the Gilligan theme song on air and challenged Doug and John to collaborate with one another on a Return to the Moon theme song.  Doug also thought taking a dog as a pet (and a research subject) to the Moon would really interest the public.  We had some fun talking about this topic but in the end, I expressed my skepticism and cynical nature regarding Doug’s five points with the general public and policy makers, and even the dog in space possibility though I am in support for traveling with my dog as listeners know since I have brought this up on many Space Show programs.

In the second segment, Marshall called in to talk about wanting to return as a guest to The Space Show regarding his ideas of lunar settlement.  He talked about artificial gravity and possible nitrogen problems on the Moon.  Marshall connected the possible nitrogen problems, even with ammonia on the Moon, to some of the issues Doug talked about during his call.

This audition program did not turn up as many potential new guests as the first audition show did but do keep in mind we are always interested in new guests, your suggestions, and recommendations.  Self-invited guests need to call an Open Lines show to tell us what is on their mind and why they think they should be a Space Show guest.  Please post comments/questions on The Space Show blog.
